100 Dollar Hamburger Dot Com
Email sent to Pilot Getaways
In searching for a treat for my 59th birthday I found Matthew's at the
Airport in Paso Robles. After a 1 1/2 hour hop from San Carlos in our Cessna 172
we landed and taxied to the nearly new Paso Robles airport terminal building,
parked right in front, and went in to a fabulous dining experience at Matthew's.
Matthew, the owner and chef, was there to greet us and offer suggestions. Our
group of three had three soups: wild mushroom bisque (yum), lentil (meaty and
delicious) and melon with mint (exquisite!) followed by a vegetable terrine appetizer, three entrees and
three desserts. My husband recommends the tagliatelle (homemade egg pasta) with lobster and I loved the spinach quiche, which was as light and
smooth as a flan. Desserts were also delicious. And after four courses, we were
quite full but still not too heavy to fly home.
Matthew's was a four star dining experience, and I plan to go back soon. It
has been rated the Best of the Best for the state of California for 2004 by $100
Hamburger Flying Club, a group that rates fly-in restaurants. I haven't seen a
mention of Matthew's in Pilot Getaways, and hope that you will bring it to the
attention of readers. This was by far the best airport restaurant we have
visited, and it seemed to be somewhat unknown...the other patrons were pilots
who happened to drop in. Let's get the word out, so that Matthew stays around
for a long time.
